In health care we tend to think that more is better, but this can often result in unnecessary tests and treatments. Engaging in conversations with your health care providers is an important way to be better informed about your health and your care. It’s okay to ask questions to make sure that tests and treatment will benefit your health and care.

Quality Improvement

Choosing Wisely Manitoba is leading many quality improvement initiatives to introduce evidence-based changes and improvements to Manitoba’s health care system. Our goal is to improve appropriateness of care, patient and provider experience and achieve health system efficiencies and sustainability by working with our healthcare stakeholders to build capacity for research stewardship and quality improvements projects that aim to reduce unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures in Manitoba.

Home Grown Collaboration

In early 2014 Shared Health partnered with the George and Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) to form Choosing Wisely Manitoba (CWM), an initiative to improve health outcomes, patient and provider experiences and health system efficiencies and sustainability. That same year, Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) initiated its “Early Adopter Collaborative”; and with the advance work done by Shared Health/CHI, Manitoba became one of the earliest of adopters in Canada. CWM works on our own “home- grown” initiatives and collaborates with our Choosing Wisely partners at CWC and other provincial chapters from across Canada to encourage more health conversations and to reduce potential wastes and harms.
