Dr. Abdi Sokoro
Dr. AbdulRazaq Sokoro wears many hats. The Chief Operating Officer of Provincial Diagnostic Services, Shared Health, has been contributing to Manitoba’s Health System for over 14 years, and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, as well as acting as the Associate Head of the Department of Pathology at thee University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College of Medicine.
Dr Sokoro’s impact on healthcare in the province is widespread, but his passion lies in reducing unnecessary tests for patients. Whether it’s reducing Vitamin D testing in Manitoba by 90%, introducing guidelines resulting in Fetal Occult Blood testing by 74%, his efforts have helped streamline processes for patients and healthcare staff in many aspects. He’s also worked to embed resource stewardship into curriculum for graduate and post graduate education. In addition to this, Dr. Sokoro continues clinical research Hypervitaminosis D, Iron Deficiency Anemia, Malnutrition, and Colonoscopy, with new articles being published as recently as this year.
Dr. Sokoro holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Zoology from Egerton University in Njoro, Kenya as well as a PhD in Toxicology from the University of Saskatchewan and a post-doctoral residency in Clinical Biochemistry from the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, Canada and the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine in the United States.
